Alleghany County, Virginia, United States
Dunlap Beach is one of the most famous beach of Alleghany County. It's hard to find some shade at the beach because there are no trees on the shore, and note that the access is somewhat tricky. There are no amenities so bring what you need and please don't leave anything behind. In peak summer months it can be difficult to stake out a peaceful place on the beach because it's a very popular beach among tourists. Be aware that swimming, drinking alcohol, smoking, bringing food, practicing activities, and bringing dogs is not allowed.
Dunlap Beach is one of the more challenging beaches to access. It is not wheelchair accessible and difficult for disabled visitors and small children.. There are no lifeguards on duty at the beach, so it is a swim-at-your-own-risk zone. There are lots of people at the beach so If you have kids, keep an eye on them at all times. Be careful with your belongings because it’s not a safe place. The locals might not be that friendly. Due to it's hard access, Dunlap Beach is remote. The cell phone signal is weak there, so be prepared.
There are no outside shower, umbrella for rent, and chairs for rent.
There are no water sports here. Bring your own food and drink since you cannot buy anything at the beach, and make sure to leave nothing behind but footprints.
June, July, August, September are the best months to visit Dunlap Beach and other beaches in Alleghany County, because that's when the temperatures are warm and there's probably less crowd (not guaranteed).
