Mappatella Beach is one of the most famous beach of Naples. It's a clothing optional beach. There's nothing like sunbathing and swimming au naturel. It's around 0.41km in length, which is small. In peak summer months it can be difficult to stake out a peaceful place on the beach because it's a very popular beach among locals. Be aware that drinking alcohol, smoking, bringing food, and practicing activities is not allowed.
Mappatella Beach is one of the more challenging beaches to access. It is not wheelchair accessible and difficult for disabled visitors and small children. You can go to this beach by car, bus, boat, and walking or hiking.. There are lots of people at the beach so If you have kids, keep an eye on them at all times. Be aware that this is a clothing optional beach (so there might be nudist zones). Dogs allowed all year round. Be careful with your belongings because it’s not a safe place. Pay attention if you go swimming because there are sharks, jellyfishes, and stingrays in the water. The locals might not be that friendly. Due to it's hard access, Mappatella Beach is remote. The cell phone signal is weak there, so be prepared. The water there is not very clean, so it is not recommended for swimming.
June, July, August, September are the best months to visit Mappatella Beach and other beaches in Naples, because that's when the temperatures are warm and there's probably less crowd (not guaranteed).
